England is turning back the clock to its great days as a leading light in watchmaking, thanks to a joint initiative between Harold Pinchbeck Ltd (http://www.haroldpinchbeck.co.uk), an independent watchmaker from Lincoln, and Brough Superior, the renowned motorcycle manufacturer.

Harold Pinchbeck has been selected to produce superior branded watches for Brough. The resulting Pinchbeck Brough Superior watches successfully reflect the brand values of the prestigious motorcycles, which are favoured by connoisseurs and gentlemen alike.

One of the most famous marques in motorcycling, Nottingham’s Brough Superior was founded in 1919 and is now undergoing a renaissance under the ownership of enthusiast and entrepreneur, Mark Upham. Hand-built to fastidious standards, Brough Superior models were dubbed “the Rolls-Royce of motor cycles”. They were the choice of T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia), who, coincidentally, lodged only yards from Pinchbeck’s offices near Lincoln Cathedral. The flagship SS100 motorcycle, costing $250,000 is produced to order.

When Brough decided to commission a watch to carry its name, it selected an equally exclusive, independent British manufacturer, Harold Pinchbeck. The two companies have several synergies: both are small outfits working to extremely high standards, both have long histories and both have recently been revived and rejuvenated.

Brough’s Mark Upham has played an active role in the design of the watches, which are handmade in England to individual order and can accommodate bespoke elements. The watches come in two versions, the SS100 and SS101, both of which have black dials, stainless steel cases and gold details to reflect the liveries of the motorcycles. Personalising choices include the use of precious metals. Prices are from £4,999.
