Breeze Slashes Sharps Lead At Rainy Rockingham

As the Ginetta GT Supercup drivers leave Rockingham circuit for another year, Carl Breeze has done exactly what he intended to around the sweeping Corby circuit, having eaten away even further at Sharps once seemingly impassable lead.

Following their success in yesterday's race at Rockingham, Tom Ingram and Carl Breeze occupied the front row of the grid for what was set to be a rather wet race two in Corby; with Tom Sharp forced to start from the back of the grid following yesterday's DNF, he had a lot of ground to make up to lead Rockingham still comfortably leading the championship.

As the race got underway, an excellent start for Breeze but a poor start for Ingram saw him slip behind Colin White at the first corner, however, a good recovery sees both he and Jake Hill move past the CWS driver shortly afterwards.

Despite starting from 14th on the grid, Tom Sharp clawed his way up into sixth place, over the opening lap, whilst in the G50 class, Rob Gaffney lead from championship leader Mark Davies and Reece Somerfield.

In the middle of the pack, a great battle emerges as Sharp tries to force his way past White, Andrew Richardson and Fergus Walkinshaw. Not giving in without a fight, Walkinshaw holds the championship leader off until lap three, leaving Sharp to begin his hunt of Richardson.

A too eager entry into Tarzan for Marcus Hoggarth sees him slide out of the race as his G55 gets beeched in the gravel, leading to the deployment of a safety car as the car is recovered. This inevitably bunches up the field, and as racing resumes on lap seven, Ingram finds a way past Breeze, although it's a move that's shortly held as Breeze soon pulls it back.

On lap nine, Hill begin to find himself under increasing pressure from yesterday's rival Richardson for third place, with Richardson making a clean move into Gracelands for third place. Elsewhere in the G50 class, Gaffney and Somefield lead from Davies, who lost time on the race restart.

Problems for Hunter Abbot see him pit with a flapping bonnet, sending him down the standings, whilst up ahead on lap 11, whilst up ahead, Richardson sets the fastest lap from third place, having etched out a 1.7 second gap over Hill, who starts to come under pressure from White.

The nail-biting moment of the race came as Ingram pulled out an exceptionally brave move on Breeze as the cars make their way around the final few corners on lap 11 to take the lead, before Richardson moves up into second place from Breeze, with 2.4 seconds to find if he wants to catch the leader.

In the G50 class, a storming debut for Harry Cockill sees him snatch third place from Davies, who is having a seemingly troublesome time in the wet, leaving Gaffney to take the win, from Somerfield and Cockill.

At a time when only wins will do for Ingram, he was determined to bring home a double here at Rockingham, and said; "We [JHR] really found something on the car that works here this weekend, we have really turned it round after what happened at Knockhill and these wins were exactly what we needed."

Not to be overlooked here however was the further destruction of Sharps championship lead by Breeze, with now only 15 points separate the pair as the drivers look towards Silverstone in a fortnights time, things just got even more interesting...
