Jamun Racing, one of the most successful and respected teams in national single-seater racing, has confirmed it will make a full-time entry into the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship for the 2013 season.
Based in Rochester, Kent, the multiple championship-winning Formula Ford squad plans to field three cars in its maiden Protyre Formula Renault BARC campaign next year. The James Mundy-led team is no stranger to the Renault series though, having been behind Scott Malvern’s 2012 title victory under the Cullen Motorsport banner.
“From our experience working with Scott and Patrick Cullen [Cullen Motorsport team principal] this year, we’ve really enjoyed being part of Formula Renault BARC so we feel the time is right to come in full time in 2013 as Jamun Racing”, said Mundy.
“When you look at the costings for this championship, it’s a sensible budget and a great place for young drivers to be. Look at last weekend, 32 cars on the grid was fantastic and shows how strong Formula Renault BARC is at the moment. The car is proven and reliable, it’s a very competitive series and there are some big teams, like Fortec, involved who you want to be racing against.”
Jamun’s commitment to Protyre Formula Renault BARC is further confirmation of the increasing popularity of the cost-effective championship which, last weekend, once again proved a successful addition to the British Touring Car Championship package at Silverstone.
Indeed, the opening two rounds of the upcoming Winter Series will also feature as part of a BTCC event – at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit on 20th/21st October – and Jamun, through its work with Cullen, will be on the grid with at least one car for Ryan Cullen who made a strong ‘slicks and wings’ debut at Silverstone.
Welcoming the arrival of Jamun as a fully-fledged entry ahead of 2013, Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship promoter Simon North said: “This really is fantastic news for the championship, Jamun is a hugely respected name in UK motorsport and the team’s success elsewhere speaks for itself. We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Jamun into Protyre Formula Renault BARC.
“Of course, we’re already familiar with the team through its association with Cullen Motorsport and Scott this year and Jamun raced in Formula Renault UK in 2006 with Duncan Tappy [2007 Formula Renault UK Champion] in his first season. Added to the confirmation of Rendez-Vous Racing’s commitment to join us, Jamun’s arrival confirms the popularity and strength of our championship.”
Along with headline sponsor Protyre, Formula Renault BARC is additionally supported by Michelin, The Lubricant Consultancy, Petronas Syntium and NGK Spark Plugs.
