Superchips Ltd, the world leader in high performance vehicle ECU remapping, has been enhancing Volkswagen turbodiesel powerplants since 1994. During this time the Buckingham based firm has developed an impressive portfolio of performance ECU upgrades, but its latest release, for the March 2009 onwards Mk6 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDi 105 PS (103 bhp), could arguably be the best yet.
That’s because Superchips’ technicians have managed to modify the Golf’s boost levels and fuelling settings to safely and reliably extract a remarkable power increase from VW’s 1598cc, TDi engine. Developed using a combination of extensive data logging, dyno testing and on-road analysis, the Superchips ECU remap realises a proven maximum power gain of 41 bhp at 4070 rpm. With the standard car recording a stronger than expected 108 bhp on Superchips’ dyno, the ECU remap raises the Golf 1.6 TDi’s peak power to 148 bhp, matching the output of the 148 bhp Mk4 Golf GTi 1.8T (1997 to 2006).
However, the peak power number is only part of the story. Thanks to the Superchips remap power increases start at just 2000 rpm and run all the way to the 4500 rpm limiter, highlighting the user-friendly nature of the upgrade and the broad spread of additional power.
The Superchips ECU remap also transforms the torque output of the Golf 1.6 TDi 105 PS (103 bhp) model. Post installation, the peak torque figure leaps by a remarkable 70 Nm at just 2356 rpm, with serious gains from 2000 rpm onwards, resulting in a dyno-proven maximum of 307 Nm. By means of comparison, the current Mk6 Golf GTi produces a peak torque output of 280 Nm.
Behind the wheel, these impressive power and torque increases transform the Golf 1.6 TDi’s driving experience. No road performance figures are available at present, but in-gear acceleration is more ‘GTi’ than ‘TDi’ thanks to the mountainous torque available. The engine is much keener to pull from all speeds, with the improved flexibility resulting in less gearchanges to maintain progress.
Meanwhile the Golf’s fast cruising, towing and load carrying capabilities are noticeably enhanced and Superchips’ work to optimise the Golf TDi’s remap combines with the upgraded engine’s additional low down torque to offer potential economy improvements of up to 7%.
Suitable for both 5-speed manual and 7-speed DSG variants of the March 2009 onwards 105 PS (103 bhp) Mk6 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDi (including the Bluemotion model), the Superchips ECU remap is available now, priced at £455.00 inclusive of installation and taxes.
The Superchips ECU remap installation process requires customers to visit one of approximately 80 Superchips performance centres, where trained technicians undertake the remapping procedure.
Customers can be assured that the Superchips conversion is covered by a full Customer Service Guarantee and an industry-leading 12 month / 30,000 supplementary full vehicle warranty.*
Superchips – don’t compromise, optimise.
