American Museum To Sell Rolls Royce Valued At $2,000,000 Used For Princess Diana's First Official Visit To U.S.

The Volo Auto Museum, Chicago, has announced it will be selling the heavily armored Rolls Royce that carried Diana, Princess of Wales and Prince Charles during the Princess' first-ever visit to the U.S. in November 1985, as part of an on-line, no-reserve auction on the US version of popular auction site eBay from 9th November 2012 (ebay.com).  Full details of the sale and a link to the sale can be found at volocars.com.
A percentage of the sale price will be donated to CHILDREN with CANCER UK (formerly CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA), Britain's leading children's charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer, which the Princess inaugurated in 1988.
The Rolls Royce is thoroughly documented to be the United Kingdom's official embassy car and features bullet proof sealed glass and exterior trim fitted with intercoms, all specifically retrofitted for use by the Royal Family and other UK dignitaries.  Documents show that in excess of $200,000 was spent armoring the Silver Wraith II and the process took three years.
Being sold with the car is the diplomatic logbook, which documents the first trip made by Diana, Princess of Wales, to America.  Videotape footage has also been discovered showing the Princess and Prince Charles in the car approaching the White House, where they met then-President Ronald Regan and Nancy Regan.
The sale co-insides with the 27th anniversary of the visit by the Princess and includes other famous cars from the museum including Jon Bon Jovi's personal BMW and the last car ever owned by Groucho Marx.
The sale closes on 16th November and the car will be sold to the higher bidder.
CHILDREN with CANCER UK funds life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancer and works to protect young lives through essential welfare and campaigning programmes.
Caroline Blakely, CEO of CHILDREN with CANCER UK said "We are delighted to be benefiting from the sale of the Rolls-Royce.  Diana, Princess of Wales, was an integral part of how this charity began almost 25 years ago and since then we have raised over £140 million for research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancer.  Without continued support from companies like Volo Auto Museum, we would not be able to continue our work to save young lives."
Established in 1960 by the Grams family, the Volo Auto Museum collector car dealerships, 50 miles northwest of Chicago, displays over 300 classic, antique, muscle and Hollywood cars for sale and as part of their world famous museum.
